Today Seagate launched the Barracuda LP low-power drive. It’s the world’s most efficient desktop-class drive. What does that mean?
- The 1 TB version uses 3.0 Watts of power at idle. No other 1 TB drive uses less.
- It comes with up to 2 TB of capacity. No other drive holds more.
- It spins at 5900 rpm, faster than typical low-power drives that run at 5400 rpm.
Chris Mellor at The Register says it’s greener than Green.
Not everyone nor every application should use a low-power drive like this. But for the right applications – low-power PCs or home external storage, for instance – the Seagate Barracuda LP wrings the most out of those precious, pricey watts.
